The new boxes for my collection of 24-hour comics feature rubber stamped illustrations, a sticker and a fancy wrap around design. Available from Atlantic Press.
I made this paper-cut book cover for The Snow People by Marie Herbert. It has been published by Silverbear and is available here.
When she knew she was going to marry an explorer, Marie Herbert saw herself waiting long months at home for news from distant, uncharted areas ... Within two years she was living with her husband in a remote settlement of Polar Inuit. Wally Herbert had developed a profound respect for these independent hunters, who call themselves the Inughuit - the real people - during his many polar expeditions, and he wanted to help them make a record of their dying culture. Marie and Wally - along with their 10-month-old baby, Kari - decided to make this record from within: to go alone, and learn from the Inuit how to survive in this harsh, yet beautiful environment. Spirited, enthusiastic and sympathetic, Marie Herbert tells the fascinating story of a year of Arctic adventure: in doing so she has written an important anthropological account of a vanishing way of life.
Atlantic Press have published my three 24-hour comics as a set entitled 72 hours.
The Leviathan, The Collector and An Epic Tale of Life and Death each represent 24 hours of intense scribbling and plotting. I used 6-sided dice to help me with randomly choosing plot direction, character names and even the number of panels per page. These comics have been printed on the fabulous risograph machines at Hato Press in lots of lovely colours. You can buy them HERE
The Leviathan was made during the Plymouth International Book Festival 2012 and is inspired by Moby Dick, themes surrounding the word Leviathan and Luke Rhinehart’s cult classic novel The Dice Man. This was my first attempt at making a comic of any kind and features mermaids, behemoths and unearthly daemon sirens.
The Collector was made at Plymouth museum during the Plymouth International Book Festival 2013. It is inspired by the permanent collection. An obsessive collector travels the world hunting for the women he loves, along the way he meets dog headed men, angry gods and some sexy dinosaurs!
An Epic Tale of Life and Death was made at 64 Killigrew St’s 24-hour comic event 2014, it is inspired by themes of death and resurrection. Three intertwining stories about life and death, greed, love, giant crabs and emergency rescue dolphins.
These new icons appear in 72hours as part of the continuing wordless story found in all AP books, they were designed by Vincent Larkin, myself and Lucy Kerr.
My drawings feature on the newest packaging from origin Coffee. Big Thanks to everyone at Origin and A-Side. #coffee #doodles #cornwall
SOME PHOTOS FROM GEEKFEST 2015. I WORKED WITH CARTOON ACE NICK BRENNAN TO CREATE THE FIRST 8 PAGES OF A 24-HOUR COLLABORATIVE COMIC. USING SUGGESTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC WE CAME UP WITH A TITLE 'THE MEXICAN VAMPIRE CONSPIRACY AND THE TEQUILA WORMHOLE', WE BOTH ENJOYED DRAWING EACH OTHER AS MEXICAN VAMPIRES..
